Rapid transport projects

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The criticism of the opposition parties against the rapid bus transit projects revolves around its priority against more urgent sectors including health, education and energy that according to the opposition are facing neglect by the government. However, these parties must be aware of the fact that time saved due to the establishment of these projects can be better utilised in other positive work and it provides more ease to students and patients alike. Prior to the completion of the Metro Bus project, it was a nightmare to travel on Ferozepur Road in Lahore but now it is almost signal-free and facilitates patients and students to reach their respective destinations safely and in timely fashion. Metro bus and rapid rail transit projects in different cities of Pakistan are going to be extremely beneficial for the general public. Secondly, public transport projects are usually subsidised by the government even in the most developed countries of the world such as England. Therefore, we should welcome such development initiatives.
