NA session cut short to mourn MNA Mahar’s death

In the midst of mourning the sad deaths of Federal Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar; a 10-year-old girl, Farishta, raped and murdered in Islamabad and son of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Qamar Zaman Kaira, Usama, the Lower House of Parliament, on Friday, passed a remorseful resolution.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan moved the resolution to recognise the services of Minister Mahar for both people as well as strengthening democracy in the country.

The members said that Mahar remained Sindh Chief Minister from 2002 to 2004 and was also serving as the member of the Lower House since 2008.

They claimed the late MNA always worked for the people of Ghotki and Sindh. Payers were also offered for Allah’ blessings upon the departed soul and patience for the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Amir Dogar, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Khawaja Asif and Maulana Akbar Chitrali.

Without taking up the agenda of the day, the chair then followed by adjourning the House till 2 PM on Monday.

The session was preceded by a meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly in Parliament House. Speaker Asad Qaiser presided over the panel held to discuss the business for the 10th Session of the National Assembly.

The committee discussed the agenda as well as ways and means to run the proceedings of the 10th session of the National Assembly.

After taking into account suggestions from the representatives of the Parliamentary Parties, the members decided that the current session would continue till May 31.

It was further decided that the session would discuss questions; calling attention notices and matters of public importance apart from legislative business.

The meeting was also attended by Ministers, Dr Shireen M Mazari, Ijaz Ahmed Shah and Azam Khan Swati; members of National Assembly (MNAs), Asad Umar, Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Rubina Irfan, Muhammad Aslam Bhoottani, Agha Hassan Baloch, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Syed Naveed Qamar, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah and Abdul Wasay.
