Peace day observed in Hijrat Colony to promote harmony within communities

KARACHI: Hijrat Colony is a lower socio income and densely populated neighborhood near the PIDC Bridge. Due to the lack of government schools and weak, are major issues that the slum is facing for past several years.

According to the residents the population of the slum is around 150,000, which comprises on people from across Pakistan who are displaced from their native places due to climate change, poverty and reducing water resources.

The slum lies in the Red Zone area and closes proximity to the Chief Minister’s House, the five-star hotels and government offices.

People in this slum live with peace, but for past few years, minor differences have emerged within different communities on the basis of sects and ethnicity.

A local private school, Iqra fellowship school (IFS), on Saturday celebrated peace day and prize distribution ceremony for promotion of peace within communities.

To develop children’s interest in the education and to attract the parents and community members to contribute their role as well as improve the quality of education in this slum, the school organized this event.

Fida-Ur-Rehman, chairman of the schools management committee said that “It’s the first time in the history of neighborhood that such activity has been conducted in the area. We appreciate the Sindh education foundation (SEF) for the supporting Iqra Fellowship School.

Rehman said through this activity our aims is to engage women, community elders, local political leaders and schools children’s to enhance the quality of education and encourage the performances of the children.

As a newly appointment chairman my strategies to provide better education especially is to focus on the out of school children’s which are threat for the future. IFS students and teachers represented different cultural performances and performed dance on diverse traditional songs containing Pashtun, Panjabi, Sindhi and Baloch.

The neighborhood inhabitant appreciated the performance and believes that such platform will increase the ability and motivations of pupils. For encouragement shields have been distributed among the best teacher, students and other supporting staff.
