China urges ceasefire amid regional tensions

Published on: June 8, 2026 6:21 PM

China on Monday urged Iran and Israel to uphold their ceasefire commitments and avoid further military escalation. Beijing warned that renewed hostilities could undermine regional stability and ongoing diplomatic efforts. The appeal comes as growing tensions raise concerns across the Middle East and beyond.

Speaking at a regular briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed deep concern over the latest developments. He said all relevant parties should maintain the momentum of negotiations and seek peaceful solutions. According to Lin, political dialogue remains the most effective path to resolving disputes and preventing further conflict.

China also reiterated its support for efforts aimed at securing a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. Beijing emphasized that military exchanges would not serve the interests of any side. Instead, Chinese officials called for restraint and constructive engagement to preserve regional peace and stability.

The statement followed fresh exchanges of strikes between Iran and Israel, which have heightened fears of a broader confrontation. The renewed violence has prompted international calls for de-escalation and increased diplomatic engagement. Several countries have expressed concern that continued hostilities could threaten security across the wider region.

Meanwhile, China advised its citizens in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow local safety instructions. Beijing continues to monitor the situation closely as diplomatic efforts continue. Analysts say China’s remarks reflect its broader position of supporting dialogue, stability, and negotiated settlements in regional conflicts.
