ISLAMABAD – Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged all communities to promote sectarian harmony during the sacred month of Muharram. He emphasized the importance of peace and unity in this sensitive period.
Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting to review security and administrative plans for Muharram in Islamabad. Key officials including the Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Additional Secretary of Interior, and police leaders attended the session.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner and DIG Islamabad informed the minister that 181 processions and 965 majalis are scheduled across the capital. A full security audit of these events has been completed to ensure safety.
The minister ordered strict checks at all entry and exit points of processions and majalis. He announced a central control room at the Safe City headquarters and directed the establishment of multi-layered security around all gatherings.
Furthermore, Naqvi emphasized the use of modern technology like geo-tagging and surveillance cameras. He also instructed proper rotation of duty officers to maintain alertness throughout the month.
Finally, he called for close cooperation with religious scholars from all sects to prevent any attempts by anti-state elements to disrupt peace. The minister stressed the strict enforcement of the code of conduct to protect public safety during Muharram.
