KARACHI: The police submitted on Monday an interim challan to Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem AKhter in a case pertaining to harming the national interest. In the challan, the accused has been declared as absconder under section 512 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) despite his publicly movements. Superhighway police produced the interim challan before sitting ATC’s administrative judge Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi. The court directed police to submit a final challan within 15 days. Waseem AKhter, the nominated mayor of the city, was booked for allegedly speaking against the interest of the country and inciting people to violence. The case was registered against Akther, who had also served as adviser to Sindh home minister, violating Telegraph Act and spreading anarchy on the complaint of a common citizen. According to the complainant, Akhther incited public for violence and harmed national interest through his remarks in talk show of private news channel. It is pertinent to mention here ATC had issued non-boilable arrest warrants against MQM chief Altaf Hussain as well as Waseem AKhter, Farooq Sattar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Rehan Hashmi, Rashid Godil, Khawaja Izharul Hasan for allegedly delivering and facilitating hate speeches against the military and other national security agencies.
