LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the target of rapid development could only be achieved through promotion of education. While talking to elected representatives on Tuesday, he said that education is the only way to cope with the challenges like poverty, unemployment and ignorance faced by the country. He said that the Punjab government has adopted a solid policy to establish education sector on strong foundation in the province, adding that a comprehensive programme of revolutionary reforms is being implemented in education sector and the promotion of quality education. Shahbaz highlighted that the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, Voucher Scheme of Punjab Education Foundation, Daanish Schools, distribution of cash prizes among position holders, foreign study tours, distribution of laptops on merit and other revolutionary steps are playing an important role in the promotion of education. He said that all out resources are available to equip the builders of the nation with education and there would be no shortage of these resources. He said that state-of-the-art Daanish schools have been set up for equipping the children of the poorest families of far-flung areas with education. The chief minister said that educational scholarships of billions of rupees have been provided to the talented students through Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. He said that PEEF is a harbinger of bright future of the country and through this unprecedented programme, children of the nation are studying in local and foreign prestigious educational institutions. He said that Punjab government has also planned to set up a great knowledge park on a vast piece of land in Lahore to promote higher and quality education. He said quality education would be promoted through setting up of renowned national and international educational institutions in the knowledge park. He said that knowledge park to be built in Lahore would be the first of its kind in the region where all facilities would be available under one roof. “Provision of resources for equipping the youth with education is a useful investment and Punjab government has laid the foundation of a revolution in education sector by taking solid steps for the promotion of education and the steps of the government will leave a far-reaching impact on education sector,” he added. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident of death of a child due to WASA pipe at Millat Park, Shah Kamal Road and expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the incident. He has expressed sympathies and condolences with the bereaved family. The chief minister has directed the administration to provide best treatment facilities to the injured brother of the deceased. He has sought a report from the administration and housing secretary about the incident and ordered investigation in to the incident and action against the responsible of negligence.
