Former CJP seeks details of PM’s assets

ISLAMABAD: Former Supreme Court chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on Monday approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to get details of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s assets.

Chaudhry, who is now chairman of his own Pakistan Justice Democratic Party (PJDP), has filed an application to the ECP seeking complete details of prime minister’s assets from 2008 to 2015.

Sheikh Ahsanuddin, counsel for Chaudhry, said the prime minister did not fulfil the criteria mentioned in the Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution. He said that Panama leaks exposed prime minister’s hidden offshore companies. “We will submit an application for disqualification of the prime minister once we receive the asset details,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, the former chief justice submitted an application to the National Assembly secretary to witness the proceedings of the National Assembly.

Sharif made his first appearance in the National Assembly on Monday after the Panama leaks caused a political upheaval in the country.
