Hepatitis, malaria, dengue patients to be given free treatment

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government presented Rs. 505 billion tax free and balanced budget in the Provincial Assembly of KP for the fiscal year 2016-17 amid cries from opposition parties against the government here on Tuesday.

The budget was presented by Finance Minister Muzaffar Sad as the minister announce that around 36,232 new jobs will be created while government employees’ salaries and pension will be increased by 10%.

The Finance Minister added that for the first time in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, around Rs. 200 million was allocated for the welfare of the transgender community. He said that Rs 10 billion and Rs.50 million were allocated for health sector in year 2016-17, adding that in the budget people suffering from hepatitis, malaria, dengue, cancer and TB would be provided free medical facilities.

In his address, the Finance Minister said that the eradication of polio and other diseases was an aim of the new five-year plan with the name “KP Immunisation Program” with the support of Gavi fund. He further said that in the fiscal year 2016-17 Hepatitis, HIV and Thalassemia programmes would be launched to combat these illnesses in the province.

He said that the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology will be completed and all necessary equipment, including furniture, will be provided to the hospital. Civil Hospital Shakardara Kohat and Oghi Mansehra Rural Health Centre will be provided category D while Swat and Dir hospitals will be also equipped with modern machinery.

In Peshawar, Mardan and Swabi, Basic Health Units will be more equipped, while in Lower Dir, Timelgara Medical Collages will be constructed. The Finance Minister further added in his budget speech said that the provincial government, with the support of German Aid, will construct Blood Transfusion Centers in D. I. Khan, Abbotabad and Swat.

Similarly the Finance Minister said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical College would be constructed in Peshawar, modern machinery would be purchased for Sadu Medical Collage Swat, and around 3500 Hepatitis C patients would be granted free treatment for the year 2016-17.

He further added that the provincial government would equip all district headquarter hospitals in the entire province, and provide all basic health facilities to the people of the province at their doorsteps.
