Sir: Does our education system teach us to memorise the content of our course books rather than understanding it? Sadly, yes. It is a matter of concern that in our government education boards, teachers only emphasise on memorising syllabus books in a given time without understanding and proper learning. Moreover, these are the same old course books that are being taught to students year after year without any further addition or improvement. The world is moving fast scientifically and technologically, but we are still lagging behind with the same out-dated learning course without any clear concepts and understanding. This old-fashioned education system is producing mere memorising robots and rote learners, who have no idea of practical or applied learning. They never get to read anything beyond their course books, and they have hardly any knowledge about the world. And that is one of the reasons why our education board students fail to compete with students of international education standards. The fault is not of any student but of the system that moulds them in such a manner that their mind is limited to their course books. This system needs to be altered. Our country needs intellectuals, not robots. AIMAN ALI Karachi
