SRINAGAR: The authorities in Indian-held Kashmir continued to impose curfew and other restrictions on Kashmiris on 9th consecutive day on Sunday to prevent them from protesting against the killing of protesters by Indian security forces.
According to the Kashmir Media Service, the Internet service and mobile phone services remained suspended, aggravating miseries of the people of the Valley. Due to the communication blockade, the situation on the ground could not be verified. Deployment of troops has been increased across the Valley. Roads, including Srinagar-Jammu Highway, have been blocked through barricades and concertina wires. In many parts of Kashmir, including Bijbehara, power supply has been snapped with locals terming it a deliberate move to suppress anti-India anger ignited by extra-judicial killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wan by Indian troops on July 8.
People are facing acute shortage of essential items such as medicines due to continued curfew. However, people defying curfew came out of their houses in Pothkhah, Dangiwacha in Sopore, Hatmulla in Kupwara and Langate in Handwara and staged anti-India protests. At Hatmulla, protesters attacked the Hatmulla Police Post. The protesters also set on fire a police guardroom at Wullar Vintage Park in Bandipora.
