ISLAMABAD: The NA Standing Committee on Housing and Works, on Monday, directed the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation to immediately initiate legal action against the illegal constructions and non-conforming use of residential property in Sectors G-13 and G-14. The committee also sought a progress report on the action against illegal encroachments and constructions on a monthly basis. The standing committee met under the chairmanship of Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, MNA, at the Parliament House. The committee while discussing the implementation status and progress on the recommendations of the committee regarding encroachments in the sectors under the M/o Housing and Works and the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) specially Sectors G-13 and G-14, observed that the Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation should strengthen its enforcement mechanism and initiate timely action against illegal encroachments and constructions otherwise a delayed action would encourage the proliferation of such illegal activities. The Director General (FGEHF) apprised the committee that an FIR had been lodged against the Khateeb of a mosque constructed illegally in the green belt along the Kashmir Highway in Sector G-13/1 and notices had been issued to the commercial users of the residential property and action had also been initiated against the illegally constructed khokhas, hotels and other encroachments. He further informed that the Enforcement Directorate had been established in the Housing Foundation to check the illegal constructions, encroachments and non-conforming use of property in various sectors of the Housing Foundation. Apprising the committee about the progress on the Bara Kaho Housing Scheme, the Director General, FGEHS, informed that the land acquisition process was discontinued after the ban on land acquisition by the ministry of interior.However, to facilitate the members of the Bara Kaho Scheme, the M/o Housing and Works had evinced an interest and called tenders for the provision of land adjacent to the land already in possession of the FGEHF and the update in that regard would be submitted to the committee after being finalised. The committee, while discussing the implementation status on the recommendations of its Sub-Committee on Projects of Pakistan Housing Foundation in Balochistan, directed to take the Government of Balochistan on board and move a summary to the government for arranging the funds to re-initiate the work on the housing projects for low income groups. The meeting was attended by the Minister for Housing and Works, Mr Akram Khan Durrani, MNAs; Rana Zahid Hussain Khan, Ms. Nighat Parveen Mir, Mr Sajid Nawaz Khan, Mr. Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Maulana Ameer Zaman, the Secretary M/o Housing & Works and other senior officers of the concerned departments.
