The Grand Democratic Alliance that holds three seats in the National Assembly and is part of the ruling coalition may soon be parting ways with the government. Sources close to the ruling coalition said that in the last meeting with the coalition’s parliamentary party meeting, GDA member Ghaus Bakhsh Meher was quite vocal and criticized the Prime Minister for his team’s failure in managing galloping inflation in the country. He confronted the Prime Minister and reportedly said “This is not the field of cricket, this is politics and governance and you have no experience.” GDA members it is said are quite dissatisfied as they do not have any say in the government and the ministers who manage major ministries, even do not meet them. “We have our constituencies to look after and face the public, with PTI’s government we are left with no face to go back to our constituencies” he reportedly said. Prime Minister Imran Khan, sources said, also became aggressive and said that if GDA wanted to sit with the opposition benches then he had no problem. GDA members then consulted between themselves and decided that thy will seek guidance of Pir Pagaro who heads GDA and decide to leave the coalition. If GDA goes ahead with the threat, PTI led coalition will be on a razor thin majority in the National Assembly. At a time when the opposition parties under the banner of Pakistan Democratic Movement are building momentum to oust the government, GDA’s possible exit from the coalition would be a major psychological boost for the opposition.
