KARACHI: The 15th year of any annual event is a milestone and when leading stars from Pakistan’s fashion, film, music and television industries gathered for the 15th Lux Style Awards (LSA), it was a momentous occasion for all who have been a part of this entertaining 15 year journey. It was a big night for film and music with performances by actor and singer Ali Zafar, actress and performer Sohai Ali Khan and leading lady VJ-turned-actress Mahira Khan. Ali Zafar had incredible energy on stage and he hosted the 15th edition with élan and style, a dash of humour and an ease that was appreciated by the enthusiastic audience. Zafar began the show with a tribute to the last 15 years with a mix of song and dance, script and drama, nostalgia, combined into memorable performances and heart tugging winners’ speeches which when played out became a part of the LSA lexicon. The catchy double meaning of some of the verses had the audience in splits. Zafar then led straight into his opening lines, “You must have guessed by now that I will be your host for the night; warna itna dil se tou mein apni mehndi pe bhi nahi nacha tha.” And that set the tempo for the rest of the glittering night with stars and presenters setting the ultra-modern spectacular stage alight with their witty repartee, acceptance speeches and spectacular performances. The 15th LSAs put up a show that lived up to the glamour of the 15 years and the credibility that goes with being the most consistent, relevant and sought after Awards show in the country. Delegates, media and performers from across the world peppered the show that proudly exhibited the best of Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Unilever Pakistan Chairperson Shazia Syed emphasised, “The Lux Style Awards is a reaffirmation of our belief in the outstanding talent we have in Pakistan. Over the last fifteen years, the LSA has been the premier and unbiased platform showcasing the abilities of our budding local talent for the world to see in the fields of film, music, fashion and glamour. We are especially proud that this platform has proven to be a turning point for many careers, with Pakistani artistes going on to prove their mettle in bigger markets. This has further strengthened our commitment towards continuing the role of the Lux Style Awards in featuring the talent of Pakistan.” With ‘Moor’ as Best Film, ‘Diyar-e-Dil’ for Hum TV as Best TV Play and Zafar’s “Rockstar” as Song Of The Year the entertainment category winners were a mix bag of some surprises and some crowd favourites. It was a big night for Mahira Khan who won Best TV Actress for ‘Sadqay Tumhare’ and Best Film Actress for ‘Bin Roye’. Actor and anchor Faisal Qureshi bagged Best Actor for ‘Rang Laga’ on Ary and actor and producer Humayun Saeed was Best Film Actor for ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’. Nabila bagged her 10th LSA; a tribute to the consistency and excellence with which she has developed the hair and make-up industry in Pakistan. It was a double triumph for Faraz Manan who bagged Best Bridal and Best Lawn while Abdullah Harris was Best Photographer. Humour and laughter are an essential part of all award shows and the 15th LSAs rolled out artists from the top drawer. With the multi-talented Zafar leading the ceremony he was joined throughout the evening by rapper and actor Ahmad Ali Butt, actor and writer Yasir Hussain, actor and singer Fawad Khan and leading ladies Mavra Hocane and Mahira. Earlier Ayesha Omar, dressed in Tena Durrani, had hosted an unusual red carpet where she chatted with leading stars and grilled them over their choice of wardrobe, their opinion on the industry they worked in and how this LSA was so special. As per tradition, the LSAs announced Scholarship Awards for the four institutions that have been a part of this initiative since 2008. Two students each from Asian Institute of Fashion Design, National Academy of Performing Arts, National College of Arts, and Pakistan Institute of Fashion Design are eligible for this grant that supports students during their final year of college.
