‘Churails’ — the rage and revolution we didn’t know we needed

Author: Staff Report

When we found out that the self-proclaimed “churrails” were headed to make men feel responsible for their wrongdoings in a society where “boys will be boys” is a chant, things were bound to get ugly.

The Zindagi original web series started streaming on 11th of August on zee5, and there was no way we couldn’t watch it. A brutal and gut wrenching story that revolves around four determined women, entirely different from each other who join forces to avenge other women. It highlights numerous ways of how women are exploited in our society. Forced marriages, casting couches, disloyal husbands, selfish parents and the list goes on. The impeccable direction was evident throughout. No doubt Asim Abbasi is one of the best in his craft. The leading ladies are among the prominent faces of Pakistan and even the cameos add to the overall storyline of the series – every role is meaningful without being expository. The subtle character development and attention to details is remarkable.

One might feel a tad bore during the initial episodes but as the plot twists and unexpected turns meet the eyes you can’t help but hold your breath and pray that things don’t get worse. As you approach the last episodes, the irony strikes. It’s the people around them who were primarily responsible for the façade.

And yes we can’t forget to mention the upbeat tempo that made the whole scenario even more engaging. Very well thought out sound tracks that were always in sync, the perfect harmony builds up the series. Even the flashbacks weren’t tormenting. The narrative stood out due to the brilliant dialogues and the perfect execution. The series is a heavy treat to watch and might open a door for a lot of new and much-needed conversations in the country. The credit goes to Zindagi – for bringing diverse and clutter breaking content to the Pakistani audience that would definitely be putting Pakistan on the global map. If you have not watched it yet, now is the time!
