Coronavirus kills another 75, infects at least 2,751 in a day

Pakistan has confirmed 75 deaths in a single day by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 243,599. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 5,058.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 2,751 persons have been tested positive for COVID-19 in 24 hours. Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Till now 100,900 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 85,261 in Punjab, 29,406 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,099 in Balochistan, 13,829 in Islamabad, 1,619 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 1,485 in Azad Kashmir.

Furthermore 1,972 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 1,677 in Sindh, 1,063 in KP, 125 in Balochistan, 146 in Islamabad, 34 in GB and 41 in Azad Kashmir. Patients are under treatment at quarantine centres of 462 hospitals, where 7,295 beds are available. Pakistan has so far conducted 1,514,858 coronavirus tests and 23,255 in last 24 hours. Moreover, 149,092 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country, whereas 2,375 patients are in critical condition.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday said that 1,468 new cases of the novel coronavirus were reported during the past 24 hours.

In a statement on the coronavirus situation, CM Murad Ali Shah said that 36 more people succumbed to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

The chief minister said that 41,490 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment in the province, including 400 at isolation centres and 39,859 at their homes. He maintained that 1,231 COVID-19 patients are admitted at the hospitals and out of the patients, 1,069 are in critical condition. The chief minister said that 113 patients are on ventilators.

The Sindh CM said that 592 more COVID-19 patients recuperated on Friday, taking the number of recovered patients to 59,165 in the province.

Earlier on July 9, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said that 1,538 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 40 associated deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections in the province to 100,900 and fatalities to 1677.

Meanwhile, as many as 674 new cases of the novel coronavirus surfaced in Punjab in the past 24 hours. According to health officials, 17 more people succumbed to the virus.

More than 52,000 patients have recuperated from the highly contagious disease in the province.

According to district-wise breakdown of new cases, Lahore reported 305, Nankana Sahib one, Sheikhupura 10, Rawalpindi 51, Gujranwala 16, Sialkot 21, Narowal 13, Gujrat 24, Mandi Bahuddin 12, Multan 38, Khanewal eight, and Vehari eight.

Faisalabad reported 62, Toba Tek Singh eight, Jhang one, Rahim Yar Khan four, Sargodha eight, Mianwali four, Khushab four, Bhakkar two, Bahawalnagar four, Bahawalpur 14, Lodhran four, DG Khan 17, Muzaffargarh one, Rajanpur 20, Layyah two, Sahiwal four, and Okara one.

Another 369 cases of the new coronavirus have been confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Eleven more deaths were recorded – three in Abbottabad, two in Peshawar and one each in Mardan, Swabi, Swat, Mansehra, Hangu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Islamabad and the federal territories have collectively recorded 138 new coronavirus cases and eight deaths, the government’s Covid-19 portal said.

The breakdown of cases in the capital, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is: Islamabad: 98, AJK: 26, and GB: 14. The federal capital also recorded four new deaths, while three were reported in GB. AJK reported one death as well.
