Sir: When Coronavirus left most of us economically deprived, SMEs in Pakistan are also affected being unprepared for such circumstances. According to SMEDA’s survey, “The impact of COVID-19 on SMEs”, shows 95 percent of SMEs forced to reduce their production, 92 percent reported disruption in their supply chain and 23 percent revealed 100 percent loss in their exports. In response to these crises, government and other private companies should formulate strategies to minimize the negative impacts on SMEs which are contributing a lot in GDP and in which 25 percent are only manufactured goods that are export. During this time, the government should help SMEs to take their business on-line to survive during this pandemic. However, these crises will take at least two years or more for SMEs to settle down. Non-governmental companies Non-governmental supportive companies like Karandaaz should also provide financial support to such small business owners. It’s a tough time for small businesses, but with our support, we can make it easy for them. MUHAMMAD ALAMGIR KHAN Islamabad
