According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based inflation ended April 30 for the combined consumption group witnessed an increase of 0.72%. Out of the 51 monitored items, the average price of 13 items increased, 11 items decreased whereas 27 items registered no change during the week. The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.65% and 0.81%. The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.65% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.68%. On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 8.83% and 12.94%. Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 10.36% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 8.83%. The commodities, which recorded increase in their average prices included banans, chicken, milk (fresh), pottoes, curd, moong pulse, mash pulse, sugar, beef, rice (Basmati broken), rice (Irri-6/9, milk (powdered), mutton. Similarly, the prices of the commodities that observed no change in their price during the week under review included bread, cooking oil, vegetable ghee (tin), salt, chillies, tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dall, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, georgette gents sandal, gents sponge, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, firewood, energy saver, washing soap, match box, petrol, diesel, telephone call and toilet soap.
