Sir: On the eve of simmering of Coronavirus, unusually, the urban areas of Pakistan have been experiencing growth in the poverty level. This chaotic economic situation is destined to result in a rise in crime level. Daily wage earners are looking with wistful eyes for a loaf and middle-class persons are in a state of uncertainties that how long their savings can run their kitchen expenses. Whereas, it is needless to expect fair treatment from the government as it is evident from its policies that it is not trickling down the oil prices benefits to citizens. As a lawyer, we daily meet hundreds of people, hailing from all strata of society, but now I have never seen swarms of non-professional baggers on roads whose eyes are full of anger and their stomach are empty. On the other hand, our state’s policies are worst, so the urban areas will be unsafe. From their body language, it appears that they prefer jails then be released from jails. In jails, at least three-time bread is available to them. FAYAZUL KARIM, Hyderabad
