Sir: According to the University of Chicago, “social media is more addictive than a cigarette” because it is a nice way to waste your time. Addiction of social media can lead users to develop a variety of health-related problems like anxiety, depression, back-bone issues and damaging of eye vision. Despite the harmful effects of social media, the import of cell phones in Pakistan is increasing on a yearly basis. If we take a glance at the import of mobiles into the country it increases 69.25 percent during the first six months of the current financial year (2019-20) as compared to last years. I request to the parents to encourage your children to spend less time on social media, buy books and novels for them and encourage sports instead. SAMEER UMRANI Karachi
