Afghan Taliban said late Tuesday that US President Donald Trump spoke to the head of the Taliban political office Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and said that withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan is in the interest of all.
A Taliban statement said that Secretary Mike Pompeo will soon speak to President Ashraf Ghani to remove hurdles in the way of the intra Afghan dialogue.
He said the US will take part in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
The Taliban statement said both leaders spoke in details about the implementation of the peace agreement. Both leaders spoke about 35 minutes at around 5.40 pm Doha time. The US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad and several Taliban leaders were also present during the telephonic conversation. On his part Baradar hoped that both sides will have positive and bilateral relations if the US completely honour peace agreement with the Taliban.
“You should fulfil your promise to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and ensure positive relations in future and don’t allow anyone to act against the agreement,” the Taliban chief negotiator told Trump, according to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
He said those who are opposing the peace deal want to keep the US involved in the war. Baradar told Trump that Taliban are an organized and strong military and political force and are determined to establish good relations with the US and the world community. He urged the US president to help the war-shattered Afghanistan in reconstruction. He said Afghans have the right to establish a government of own choice.
