LAHORE: A three-day anti-polio campaign, organised by the City District Government Lahore (CDGL), would commence from today (Monday).
Over 1.6 million children under the age of five years would be immunised by administering polio teams. In order to administer polio drops, a total number of 4,319 polio-administering teams would remain in operation in different towns of the city.
According to details, out of the total polio teams, as many as 3,825 teams have been designated as mobile teams, which would visit door-to-door to facilitate the children, while 327 fixed teams would perform their duties in all hospitals including district headquarter hospitals and basic health units, whereas 167 transit teams have been deputed at public places including bus stands and railway stations.
On a query, DCO spokesperson Imran Maqbool said that each police station would provide security to polio workers in their respective area. He said that policemen would be deployed to guard polio workers along with dolphin force, which would patrol the nearest streets and colonies as per their assignments. Last year, eleven polio campaigns were held in the provincial capital by the health department of CDGL, he added.
Imran said, “DCO Lahore Muhammad Usman has directed the town administration to personally monitor the performance of polio workers and requested the parents to take their children to health/vaccination centres or inform them on their helpline in case polio teams do not reach their doors.”
