PESHAWAR: According to a report released by District Health Information System (DHIS) around 13,024 cases of Tuberculosis (TB) were reported in 2nd quarter (April to June 2016) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The report available with Daily Times shows that Peshawar district is on the top with 2,007 new TB cases while Mardan district reported 1,582 cases to stay second behind the provincial capital. Similarly in Abbottabad 549 TB cases were reported while number of TB cases reported in Bannu were 579, Battagram 201, Buner 292, Charsadda 424, Chitral 215, Dera Ismail Khan 575, Hangu 323, Haripur 427, Karak 243, Kohat 442, Kohistan 90, Lakki Marwat 432, Lower Dir 452, Malakand 383, Mansehra 831, Nowshera 730, Shangla 383, Swabi 590, Swat 215, Tank 149, Thorghar 15 and Upper Dir 194. Pakistan is among the 6th high burden TB countries across the Globe while around 55,000 new TB cases surface in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa every year. Dr Taj Muhammad from TB Control Programme while talking to Daily Times said that the provincial government working to end TB disease from the province and for this purpose TB centers were established in each district of KP. He further said that Provincial TB Control Programme has 225 functional diagnostic and 810 treatment centers all over the province. When asked what are the reasons of growing cases across the province and particularly in Peshawar he said that the provincial government directed all the doctors to diagnose the TB patients in the government facility of TB centers in the province. Previously in private clinics doctors were treating TB patients but now they refer all patients to these centers where free treatment is available for patients.
