Sir: According to estimates by the Human Rights Watch and the HRCP cite the number of acid attack victims to be as high 400-750 per year. Similarly, 10-20 cases per year cased are reported in Pakistan. Most of such incidents happened in rural areas of Punjab and Sindh and some cases in Balochistan. Acid-throwing cases always take place after denying marriage or illicit relations by women. The irony is that hundreds of women’s faces are burnt but against this heinous crime, no severe punishments were awarded to the culprits, they were just awarded a few years imprisonment and freed according to laws. While on the other hand, the woman lost her face for her lifetime. Culprits should be hanged instead of a few years’ incarcerations. HAMMAL M. NAHEEM Bugh, Makran
