LAHORE: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), in collaboration with Wheel of Change (WOC), an organisation working for women empowerment, on Sunday organised a cycle rally in order to sensitise masses on ‘anti-littering, solid waste management and role of a common man in maintenance of clean environment’. More than 50 girls from various schools, colleges and universities took part in the drive, which started from Siddique Trade Centre and concluded at the same place after passing through Liberty Roundabout. Local area police was also deputed on the occasion to guard the participants of the cycle rally and to curb any untoward incident. LWMC Deputy Manager (Communication) Muhammad Umair Khan, Assistant Manager Rehman Rashid, WOC representatives Anila Shabir and Husnain Naqvi participated in the rally as organisers. During the drive, LWMC Communication Department also setup awareness camps and distributed pamphlets among participants and road user to sensitise them. The main purpose was to mobilize the community on anti-littering and developing habits of proper disposal of waste. “We need to change the habit of society in order to propel disposal of waste and garbage into dustbin and keep clean the area,” said Umair Khan. WOC member Faiza Gohar on the occasion said he organization was ready to contribute for the betterment of society. She said that LWMC and WOC provided excellent platforms for girls to express their potentials. Anila Shabir said that the role of women was vital in the maintenance of beauty of the city, as they were a major driving force in the society.
