CDA to train officers on use of GIS

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) with the collaboration of SUPARCO is organizing training for CDA officers to enhance the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) in disbursement of duties.

The training is aimed to capacity building of CDA officers in monitoring urban growth, urban sprawl, deforestation, encroachment and exercising building control in the city while using satellite based images and information.

The four-week training program is being organized at GIS lab established in Planning Wing of CDA. The training will be held four days week and during office hours. SUPARCO has deputed dedicated experts for the said training program. The training will be assignment based and is being attended by the relevant officers / officials so that capacity of these officers could be enhanced in true letter and spirit and desired results could be achieved. The training is being attended by officers/officials from Enforcement Directorate, Urban Planning, Traffic Engineering and Traffic planning, Housing Societies Directorate, Regional Planning, Building Control Directorates, Environment Regional Directorate, Environment (West), Environment (East) and Director Parks (Technical).

The training of the officers is being organized as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CDA and SAUPARCO few months back for monitoring different dynamics of the city through satellite imagery. Under the MoU, SUPARCO is assisting CDA in monitoring of urban growth, identification of Katchi Abadies, encroachment on CDA land through a latest technology and real time imagery as well as capacity building of the CDA officers is also being made so that desired result should be achieved. The purpose of the training is to enhance the capacity and capability of CDA officers so that maximum output could be ensured.
