Dir Tehsil Council passes Rs 180m budget

UPPER DIR: The tehsil council of Dir has unanimously approved Rs 179.244 million developmental budget of the council for the fiscal year 2016-17 on Friday, as 50 per cent of the total budget was allocated for discretionary fund. The council budget meeting held in the TMA Council Hall in Dir. Deputy Convener Javid Khan presided the meeting. The council allocated Rs 44.811 million for water supply schemes while for municipal services and cleanliness an amount of Rs 35.848 was allocated which is the 25 per cent of the total budget and five per cent was kept for decoration purposes in the budget. Maroof Shah Advocate, tehsil councilor from Bibyawar ward, said that it was unfair that the provincial government had defined sectors and allocated fund into that sectors from Peshawar. He said that every tehsil council and area had their own needs and problems, adding that they could not limited to water supply schemes because people wanted other developmental projects apart from it. Mujahed Khan, Bakhtiar Khan, Habib-ul-Haq, Shakirullah and other members said that contractors were not completing projects in time and many projects had been left uncompleted. They said that they were also using low quality material in the projects. The Tehsil Nazim Mir Makhzan-ud-Din said that they admitted that contractors were using substandard material and also doing delay in completion of projects. He said that stern action would be taken against those contractors who were delaying in developmental projects and using low standard material. He warned contractors to complete their ongoing projects soon otherwise their bills would be stopped till completion of projects. The council also passed a resolution regarding documentation in Urdu language in the TMA office.
