Two new HIV positive cases were detected at the screening camp established at Taluka Headquarter Hospital (THQ) here on Wednesday out of 34 tests. The toll has climbed to 1145 out of which 912 are children between the age group of Zero to 12 years. This was revealed by Dr. Sikandar Memon, Provincial Program Manager, Sindh AIDS Control Program (SACP), while talking to this scribe Wednesday. He said 59 are male adults and 174 are female adults also. So far 36,613 people among the general population have been tested. Meanwhile, two new HIV positive male cases were also registered at HIV/AIDS Treatment & Care Centre, Larkana, where so far 2870 people have been registered. Meanwhile, affected parents and elders of 22 HIV positive people of village Subhani Shar located near Ratodero have complained for non-provision of treatment medicines at the Ratodero Treatment & Support Centre. They further complained that doctors’ attitude is also very rude and unbecoming of their profession which shows that doctors and paramedics have not been properly trained. These affected people and other residents very badly need awareness which is lacking since the massive outbreak in mid-April, 2019. Another HIV patient of village Seelra (TS) also complained previously against the doctors of Chandka Medical College Hospital who refused to provide him treatment at Casualty and by Dr Abdul Malik of Orthopaedics Surgery Department. His one son has already expired and his spouse and another son are also HIV positive. The affected people are being neglected by the society for fear because of unawareness which is the primary job of SACP but it has miserably failed in discharging its primary responsibility due to which stigma and discrimination is at its peak. The Sindh Health Department has also miserably failed to discharge its fundamental duties as no allocated funds of Rs 600 million have so far been released despite passage of over four months to make the Centres work properly. Dr. Sikander Memon claimed that first quarter of these funds amounting to Rs 150 million will be released within a week to run the program. He said that 170,000 HIV testing kits are lying in SACP godown of them 36000 have been consumed at camps and 200 to 300 kits have been made available at each of 14 treatment centres. He said new kits are not being procured because expiry of these available kits is near in May-July, 2020. He said under new planning high risk population will be screened which include jail inmates, transgenders, Intravenous Drug Users (IDUs), male & female sex workers adding then we will be able to consume available kits stock, he added. He said six new centres will be opened for which Rs 1.5 million have been allocated for training of doctors and nurses. These centres will be established in Khairpur, Jacobabad, Sehwan Sharif, Indus Hospital Badin, Mirpur Khas and PMC Hospital Shaheed Benazirabad adding CD-4 machines will also be made available by WHO. He said after functioning of these centres HIV patients of these areas who are getting treatment at other centres will be shifted to their original place of residence. Dr Memon confirmed that he is under transfer and his notification will be issued within a day or two.
