LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader and son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Captain (retd) Safdar was arrested late Monday evening, party leader Ata Tarar said. According to PML-N spokesman Marriyum Aurangzeb, Mohammad Safdar was arrested on a charge of “hate speech”. He was arrested on the motorway while he was returning to Lahore from Bhera. Police had registered a case against him on Oct 11 for speaking against state institutions. Taking to Twitter, the former prime minister’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik stated that Nawaz required immediate in-hospital care. PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said that the government’s act of not shifting the former prime minister earlier to a hospital for medical care was the worst example of political vengeance and insensitivity. “If anything happens to Nawaz Sharif, we will blame Imran Khan for it,” he said.
