Punjab Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar has said the government will not let the opposition lock down and jam the country. Addressing the ‘Sports and Cultural Conference’ organised by Insaf Sports and Cultural Wing at Governor House on Saturday, he said opposition will not resign from parliament as it is only pressurizing government through such tactics. “We want to negotiate, but if negotiations fail, we will decide the future course of action,” he said. “We have already experienced 126 days sit-in. When opposition parties will do sit in, they will come to know the bitterness and difficulties of a dharna. I recently met Chuadhry Brothers and they are willing to play their role in negotiations with opposition,” he added. Special Assistant to PM Naeem Ul Haq, Convener Sports and Culture wing Umer Khayam, President Sports and Culture Punjab Mian Javed Ali, Ubaid ur Rehman, Rana Akthar and others also attended the event. While addressing the conference and later taking to media, Ch Sarwar said that the government has set up a powerful committee to negotiate with the opposition. “We need a guarantee from the opposition to hold peaceful demonstration and we will not create hurdles in peaceful protest. We hope that opposition will not show stubbornness. We will take strict action against people who will take law in their hand,” he added. “Chaudhry Brothers are willing to talk Fazal ur Rehman and want to play their role for peaceful settlement of the issue,” he said, and added, “We are not afraid of Maulana’s agitation … when we ask from opposition about their demands their only demand is PM resignation, such unlawful demands cannot be met and govt. will complete its constitutional term,” he said. “If Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other opposition parties will try to create chaos and anarchy in country, it will badly damage the nation’s consensus and solidarity for Kashmir at this crucial time,” he added. Speaking on the occasion, Naeem ul Haq said the government is are not against protests, but Maulana Fazlur Rehman says that he will shut down the entire country, which can never be allowed. “If they hold peaceful protests anywhere, we have no objection. We will fulfill all promises made with people of Pakistan including youth and will ensure eradication of corruption. We will make Pakistan developed and progressive and bring this country out of all crises,” he added.
