Police reluctant to register case of domestic violence

Despite the passage of two weeks, the police are reluctant to lodge a First Information Report (FIR) on the complaint of a woman who is a victim of domestic violence.

Shazia Bano, a resident of Dhameyal – Rawalpindi – file a complaint on September 14, 2019 to get the FIR registered against her husbands and brother in-law for regularly torturing her and forcing her out of her home.

She claimed that her husband with the consent of his brother regularly beat her, adding that on September 9, 2019 her husband had tortured her again and expelled her from the home and now they were not allowing her to return. “I filed a complaint in Chokwi Raneyal of Saddar Beruni Police Station but the police have not taken any action on that till today”, she maintained.

Shazia blamed, during her 30 years married life she had endured violence on every second day. Her brother in laws want to occupy her house that she had constructed by selling her jewelry, she maintained.

While talking with Daily Times, she blamed that a police official close relative of the accused is deputed in Regional Police Officer (RPO) office is backing the accused that’s why police is reluctant to take any action against the accused.

She added, when she showed marks of violence on her body to the investigation officer namely Abid he abused her and said these are just marks not fractured, when any of your bone get fracture then he will take action.

She appealed the RPO and City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Faisal Rana to take action against the officials of Chowki Raneyal of Sadar Beruni Police Station and also issue instructions to the police to register FIR against the accused.

When contacted, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Abid who is an investigation officer of this case, he confirmed that he had received application but did not take any action yet.

When asked about the delay in registration of the FIR despite the passage of more than 10 days, he answered that he will not take any action against the accused.
