Four years ago the award-winning period drama Downton Abbey ended, but there’s always been talk of a movie. And lo and behold Lord Julian Fellowes has finally penned one as the huge cast of upstairs and downstairs characters return for another episode. And yes, it’s very much another episode in the vein of one of the Christmas Specials, but so what? It’s heartily welcomed if you’re a fan or casual viewer looking for something warm and cozy. Of course, being the big-screen event, Fellowes had to come up with an epic enough plot to warrant a Downton Abbey movie. And what’s bigger than having the King and Queen to stay at the stately home? As ridiculous a plot point as this sounds, it’s actually based on a Yorkshire tour in 1912 made by King George V and Queen Mary. However, the way this is carried out and all the clashes, surprises and shenanigans that go on during the visit is where it enters the realms of the unbelievable.
