Amid the unfortunate custodial death of Salahuddin Ayubi, the whole nation has raised voice against police’s brutality on the innocent. Actors Armeena Rana Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi have also raised voice for the innocent soul. The ‘Janaan’ actress took to Twitter and expressed, “They basically murdered a real life person like #bhola from #ranjharanjhakerdi, the television play. Salahuddin clearly had mental health issues #JusticeforSalahuddin”. #JusticeforSalahuddin has been trending in the country where many are seeking justice for the mentally disabled man from Gujranwala. A few days ago, in a video that went viral on social media, the man can be seen stealing from an ATM after breaking open a machine in Faisalabad and sticking his tongue out in jest at both the camera in the corner of the booth and the one installed in the machine itself. On August 30, the man once again entered an ATM booth – this time in Rahim Yar Khan – and was in the process of breaking the machine’s exterior when he was caught red-handed by other customers. Ayubi’s mischievous activities during a robbery had taken him to fame on social media. A case was registered against the accused thief under Sections 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 454 (lurking house trespass or house-breaking in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (theft in dwelling, house, etc) of the Pakistan Penal Code. On September 2, a case has been registered against police officials after a citizen involved in ATM robberies was found dead during police investigations. Hamza Abbasi asserted, ‘He was mentally challenged but seemingly physically okay and Punjab police’s cited reason of death of natural causes seems like nonsense! Any suspensions in Punjab police? The family of ATM thief Salahuddin has moved towards their ancestral village with the dead body. The lawyer of Salahuddin, Usama Khawar said his client was killed due to brutality of police officials. He said the FIR was registered after a delay of 40 hours. He said police performed autopsy of Salahuddin without our permission which is also a crime. Father of Salahuddin said he will go to any extent if Justice did not prevail in this case. It is pertinent to mention here that the father Salahuddin Ayubi of Gujranwala’s Kamonkay district, on Monday refused to receive the dead body of his son until registration of an FIR against policemen whom he accused of being involved in his son’s death. Ayubi’s father, Afzal told the media that his son’s autopsy report hasn’t been issued by the hospital’s administration so far. He pleaded with higher authorities for justice. According to policemen, Ayubi had some mental health issues and died as his health deteriorated under custody. They had told the media that he had been doing some ‘foolish things’ under police custody. He had been rushed to a hospital when his health deteriorated, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Police told the media that the actual cause(s) of his death would be ascertained after his autopsy report. Hamza Ali Abbasai also came out in the support of alleged ATM thief Salahuddin Ayubi who passed away in the custody of police. The ‘Mann Mayal’ star raised voiced to bring justice to Salahuddin and expressed that poor die in the jail when those in power live in a luxurious five-star way even in a jail after committing the same crime. Hamza Abbasi asserted, “He was mentally challenged but seemingly physically okay and Punjab police’s cited reason of death of natural causes seems like nonsense! Any suspensions in Punjab police? Any one arrested from within the police? Ya phir bass ek na khatam honay wali inquiry?” He continued saying, “When they commit the same crime, they are given five-star facilities because they are wealthy and powerful.” Pyarey Afzal said that no country cannot prosper without the justice prevailing in it, “How can you imagine that without justice, our country can prosper, no country can prosper without justice.”
