KHYBER AGENCY: Asim Durrani, President of Vintage & Classic Car Club Pakistan (VCCP), during an old cars rally from Karachi to Khyber, said the event aimed at preserving heritage and also to convey a message that there is peace and stability in the area. An old cars rally starts on November 11, which culminated at Machni check point at Landi Kotal Khyber Agency. The 7th car rally was jointly organized by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP), Land Rover and VCCP. However, after having a night stay at Peshawar Services Club, the cars rally in its last stage proceeded to Khyber Agency from Balahisar Fort, the headquarters of Frontier Corps (FC) in provincial metropolis of KP. Asim Durrani, president VCCP, while talking to Daily Times at Machni check post, said it was first time in the history that such recreational event was conducted from Karachi to Khyber. “We will organize such rallies in future to divert attention of people towards healthy activities”, he claimed. “The sole aim of the event was to conserve heritage by conducting such programmes and also to persuade and encourage people to participate in these sorts of programs in future”, he remarked, adding that the event would definitely convey a positive message to nation and entire world that there is complete peace in the area as compared to past. Earlier, Commandant Khyber Rifles, Colonel Omer Farooq received the participants of the rally at Machni check post. Initially, the rally from Karachi was joined by 15 classic vehicles models ranging between 1939- 1980s and later on, around 60 more cars joined the rally from Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. The old car collection rally included Rolls Royce Silver Wraith (1939), MG TD (1950), Humber Hawk(1957), Mercedes, Thunderbird (1960), Chevrolet Corvette (1982) etc. Participants who took part in rally expressed extreme pleasure at the event and said it was a wonderful moment for them to be part of this healthy activity.
