HIV positive cases continue to emerge at the screening camp of Taluka Hospital, Ratodero, where the number of affected HIV cases has reached 988 out of which 810 are children and 178 are adults. So far, according to the data of Sindh AIDS Control Programme (SACP), 33,434 people among the general population have been screened at all the six outreach sites in and around Ratodero. On the other hand, as many as 764 out of 810 HIV positive children have been registered at the ART Centre established in Chandka Children Hospital, Larkana, out of which 613 are on ARV which means they have been given treatment medicines which they require for lifetime to remain alive. Over 40 children are brought daily by their parents from Ratodero in the out-patients department (OPD) of the HIV/AIDS Pediatric Treatment Centre, Larkana, for medical checkup, Dr Irfan Shaikh told this scribe on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a 10-member WHO team led by Dr. Basim visited the UNICEF Treatment Centre, blood screening camp established in Ratodero. They watched the process of obtaining blood at the screening camp. The team later had a meeting with Larkan Division Commissioner Salim Raza Khuhro where they were briefed by SACP Manager Dr. Sikandar Memon bout the prevailing position of spread of the viral HIV disease, it’s control from further spreading and the efforts so far taken for providing medical treatment facilities including drugs and required tests to the affected children and adults of Ratodero. The teams will also participate in the meeting about infectious disease which is scheduled for Thursday. The WHO team assured of full support to the provincial government for treatment of people carrying HIV. They also assured that training will be imparted to the medics and paramedics so that they could be able to handle positive cases properly in future.
