Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar inaugurated the mobile health unit donated by Imperial College London at Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) on Wednesday. A briefing of SIMS academic council was also held to brief about the steps taken for improving medical facilities in Services Hospital. The Chief Minister, on the occasion, announced to upgrade the hospital emergency adding that it would be made state-of-the-art facility and Punjab government will provide necessary resources in this regard. He also directed to overcome the shortage of hospital’s human resource. I had, earlier, visited the hospital emergency twice in the night and some complaints were raised with regard to medical facilities. My late father was also admitted here and I know that what difficulties are faced by the patients in the emergency, he added. Hospitals’ emergencies will be improved on priority basis and funds are provided in the budget, he added. He said that hospitals will be transformed as healing centers and shortages found anywhere will be removed. The Chief Minister said that the journey of change has been started from hospitals and patients will be provided quality healthcare facilities. He took notice of overcharging in name of car parking from the attendants and made it clear that overcharging will not be tolerated. He also met with young doctors who thanked the Chief Minister for an increase in their pay. He issued directions to the health minister for early solution of hostel problem of doctors. Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Chairman P&D, Secretary Specialized Healthcare and others were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, Buzdar presided over a meeting at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday to review development schemes relating to southern Punjab. He expressed strong indignation over the use of substandard material and delay in some road construction projects. He reprimanded the concerned officials and directed that they should ensure strict monitoring & transparency and quality of development projects should be ensured. No compromise will be made on public welfare projects and should be completed according to their respective timeframes. He inquired what departments are doing and directed that immediate attention should be given to solving problems of the people. The direction of the resources has been turned towards backward areas and no hindrance is tolerable in this regard, he added and further directed that timely provision of machinery should be ensured for cleanliness purposes. The meeting reviewed progress on model cattle markets project and different departments gave a briefing about their development projects. Chairman P&D, secretaries of industry and finance departments and others attended the meeting. Buzdar also paid a surprise visit to different departments on Wednesday and checked the attendance of the officers. He inquired the people about their problems and issued directions to solve their problems. He further directed to immediately solve the problem of an elderly woman. Talking on the occasion, he said that such visits help in knowing facts and it is sanguine that officers are available in their offices. He said that the open-door policy will be strictly followed to solve the problems of the common man adding that PTI government has totally changed the traditional culture of government departments as public sector institutions are open to the people. People are my asset and their problems are solved by treating them as my own, he added. Separately, State Minister for Narcotics Control and SAFRON Shehryar Khan Afridi called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday. During the meeting, both agreed to take collective steps for the elimination of narcotics and it was decided that Punjab and federal governments will initiate joint crackdown against the elements involved in the narcotics business. The chief minister said that elements engaged in narcotics trade outside educational institutions will be strictly taken to task and every support will be provided to police, excise and line departments. He said that elements doing the illegal the business of narcotics are the killers of humanity; crackdown will be continued against them and jail is the best place for such elements. Collective efforts are required to free the society from the narcotics, he added. Shehryar Afridi said that elements involved in narcotics trade do not deserve any leniency and they will be brought under the net of law. Collective action will be taken against those doing the business of narcotics outside educational institutions, he added.
