KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly, on the eve of International day for elimination of violence against women, passed a resolution on Friday seeking the protection of women and girls The session also witnessed rumpus during the question session when parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and leader of the opposition Khuwaja Izharul Hassan started war of words against each other. In Friday’s proceeding PPP members presented a resolution aimed at the provision of justice and equal opportunities for women. While expressing views on the resolution PPP MPA Ghazala Siyal said that this day is being celebrated worldwide, which teaches us to respect women? MPA Nahid Baigum said that, in our society women have been victims of torture. “We want to empower women, and for the sake of provision of Justice and equal rights to them ; this resolution is being presented” said Nahid adding that the present conditions are barriers to women rights. Member of the Muslim League Functional (PML-F) Mehtab Akbar Rashdi said that this Law is tantamount to a weapon which can be a safeguard for women. “To empower women and give them accessibility to all opportunities the Sindh Assembly had farmed this legislation” Rashdi said adding that the government should implement on the legislations this house. During the session of questions and answers opposition leader Khuwaja Izhar requested to talk on an important issue. The Parliamentary leader Nisar Khuhro replied that you can not speak, beyond rules. “When ever I wanted to speak, something goes wrong with Khuhro” Hassan complained. During conversation between them the deputy speaker, chairing the session at the moment kept silent. Member of the Pakistan Tahrik-i-Insaf Khurram Sher Zaman presented a resolution regarding employment opportunities in the province. Zaman said that after a long interval government is going to make appointments in all departments. In the past jobs were sold, only ‘blue-eyed boys’ were selected. Replying to Zaman , Khuhro said that he has submitted resolution on behalf of cuttings of the newspapers, his resolution has no standing to be presented in the session. “We have not made any appointment yet, when ever an misappropriation may occur, you can initiate the resolution” Khuhro said. Shaheed Zualfiqar Ali Bhutto Law University bill was also set on the agenda but it would be put up for discussion on Monday. Most of the female members of the house said that our society is not ready to empower women. Discrimination with the female prevails in each and every sector of life.
