The beauty and top-notch education of Shikarpur District would be restored with the support of masses, said the newly elected chairman of Sikarpur Municipal Committee, Aqeel Abbas Soomro, on Sunday. He urged upon the people of Shikarpur to own the educational institutes for the welfare of the students and their bright future.

The chairman said this during his visit to the historic Chelasing & Sitaldas [C&S] Government Degree College on the humble request of its principal Professor Muhammad Afzal Shaikh. Soomro was asked to highlight the issue of colleges at a proper forum.

After seeing the condition of the college structure, Soomro said that it seemed the Degree College had been left helpless for years though this college enjoyed the status of being the first college in Sindh. It had produced a good number of students who, after completing their studies, had received higher status, he maintained. However, these alumni were said to not pay heed to the college. He vowed to raise his voice at a proper forum for the best interests of the college.

Soomro announced to make a green belt next to the main gate of the college to add to the beauty of the college. He also promised one water tank of cold drinking water for students as well as the services of sanitation workers once every month to clean the college.

There was a need for sanitation workers for the welfare of the students, he continued.

Principal Muhammad Afzal Shaikh acclaimed the efforts of the newly elected MC Chairman and also urged the parents to send their children to college for the sake of their bright future. He gifted the Sindhi cap to the chairman following the traditions of Sindh.

Prominent social worker Zahid Bhanbhro, Waheed Phulpoto, Sajjid Sethar, Kamran Siddiqui, Amjad Jalbani, Fahad Shahzad Solangi, Zameer Ahmed, Muhammad Sachal and others were also present during his visit.
