Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday visited the head office of Provincial Disaster Management Authority where he inspected various sections of the control room.He also watched the early warning system and the media watch room set up for keeping an eye on the relevant news. Provincial Minister Mian Khalid Mehmood and DG PDMA Raja Khurram Shahzad briefed the Chief Minister about the role played by the PDMA. The Chief Minister also presided over a meeting in which setting up of district-level PDMA control rooms was decided. He assured that allowances and other resources will be provided to the PDMA staff. Introduction of drain water harvesting technology was also reviewed for the drainage of rainwater and the proposal of implementing groundwater recharging system in urban areas was discussed as well. The Chief Minister said that the scope of PDMA will be extended to districts in phases and assured that required resources will be provided. He said that an early warning system should be made more effective to deal with the threat of hill-torrents and other natural calamities. Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Mian Muhammad Khalid Mehmood, SMBR and others attended the meeting.Buzdar also directed the WASA officials to expedite the drainage of water, adding that officials concerned should personally supervise the field activities and water disposal should be completed by utilizing all possible resources. He has also directed the traffic police to ensure the uninterrupted flow of traffic. Separately, Buzdar increased the annual grant of Lahore Press Club for the welfare of journalists from Rs 5 million to Rs 20 million. He also directed to waive off monthly outstanding dues of residents of journalists’ colony amounting to Rs 12 million as well as issue health cards to the members of Lahore Press Club.Newly elected office-bearers and members of governing body of Lahore Press Club called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at Chief Minister’s Office. The Chief Minister while approving the demands of office-bearers of Lahore Press Club, assured them the early implementation. The Chief Minister also directed expeditious solution of the affairs regarding phase-II of journalists’ colony and subsequent development of F-block. The Chief Minister also directed to issue notification of Board of Director and elected management committee. The Chief Minister further directed that action should be initiated for setting up school, 30-bed hospital, public parks and commercial area in journalists’ colony Harbanspura. The Chief Minister directed to initiate proceedings for handing over sewerage and water supply system to WASA and electricity system to the LESCO. The Chief Minister also directed district administration and police authorities to initiate action according to law against those illegal occupants of the land of journalists’ colony.The Chief Minister further directed to initiate action for the transfer of land deed in the favour of Journalist Housing Foundation. President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari, Senior Vice President Zulfiqar Ali Mehto, General Secretary Zahid Abid, Shahid Ch. and other office-bearers thanked the Chief Minister and said that the sentiments of Chief Minister for the journalist community are valuable. He said that Usman Buzdar is a ray of hope not for the journalists of Lahore but for the journalists of whole Punjab. They further appreciated and stated that Chief Minister won the hearts of all the journalist community by approving all their demands.Chief Minister Usman Buzdar thanked the journalists and remarked that all the media persons are like his friends and respectable for him. He appreciated the efforts of those who highlighted genuine problems of the masses through positive journalism. We love journalists and will always do so. The ceremony was also addressed by Provincial Minister Syed Sumsam Ali Bukhari. Principle Secretary to CM, Secretary Information, DGPR, Commissioner, DC Lahore, DG LDA, police and other authorities were present on the occasion.
