LAHORE: Election for Mayors and Deputy Mayors are to be held in Punjab on December 22. In this regard, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued the schedule for filling up the seats chairman, vice chairman, Mayors and Deputy Mayors in district councils, Municipal Committees, Municipal Corporations and Metropolitan Corporation relating to Punjab province.
According to schedule, Returning Officers (ROs) are to be issued the public notice on the upcoming Tuesday, whereas nomination papers will be received on December 9-10 and scrutiny of nomination papers by the ROs on December 11-12. The last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the ROs rejecting/accepting the nomination papers is set on Dec 14. The last date for deciding appeals by the Appellate Authorities is Dec 15 and last date for withdrawal of candidature to be Dec 16. Publication of revised list of candidates along with symbols is to be issued on the same day.
Elections for all seats are to be held on December 22. Consolidation and declaration of Results by the Returning Officer are to be announced on the next day, December 23. ECP issued notification of the Returned Candidates on December 28, while elected members are to take oath on December 31. It’s pertinent to mentioned here that the offices of the Election Commission as well as the offices of District Returning Officers and Returning Officers shall remain open on public holidays (Saturday and Sundays) during this period in case any activity is involved.
