Multiple power connections of the KMC were disconnected on Friday on account of non-payment of monthly electricity bills as the municipal body still owes Rs 4.11 billion to the power utility. The honorable court had directed the KMC to pay the electricity bills from April 2019 onwards to K-Electric (KE), but no payment has been made. The KE had served several notices on the municipality for payment of monthly electricity bills before disconnection. The KE urges the authorities concerned to pay their outstanding dues as per the court orders at the earliest. The company also condemned the damage to KE property at one of its offices by the KMC later in the day. The outstanding receivables of KE have ballooned to Rs 54.39 billion on account of outstanding payments from various federal and provincial public sector entities, including the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), which owes the company Rs 32.07.
