The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to arrest former Sindh minister Sharjeel Inam Memon in an ongoing illegal assets case. The anti-graft watchdog has moved an accountability court to seek warrants for Memon’s arrest. A hearing was held in the accountability court over Inam’s arrest on Friday. NAB argued in favor of his arrest to proceed further with the investigation. The officials of the bureau told the court that the suspect was currently under custody in Karachi’s Central Jail and sought a no objection certificate (NOC) for his arrest. NAB informed the court that Memon’s personal assistant, Izhar Hussain, had also been arrested. The court adjourned the hearing till Saturday (today). Former provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, along with 11 others accused, had been presented before an accountability court in Karachi on April 1. The anti-corruption watchdog had initiated the inquiry against him over alleged corruption by awarding government advertisements at ‘exorbitant rates’ and abuse of power, causing losses worth Rs 6 billion to the national exchequer.
