Sir: The menace of street crime has risen again to a greater extent, in Karachi. For the last three months or so, the street criminals have again become active and have been carrying out their nefarious activities at will. Nowadays, we have frequently been seeing, reading and hearing someone being robbed in the city of his/her valuables such as car, motorbike, mobile phone, wallet, watch, purse etc., by the street criminals. The worst thing about the whole scenario is that these street criminals do not show any sympathy for a person who resists such action and shoot him instantly, which, in most of the cases, results in his death. It has often been seen that street criminals try to snatch any valuables from a person when there is no hustle and bustle on these streets and when there is complete or partial darkness. The presence or patrolling of the police in these streets would deter criminals from doing their nefarious actions. This will help minimizing street crime in Karachi, if not helping in completely eliminating it. ABDUL SAMAD SAMO Karachi
