Sir: The issue of climate change was once considered as an issue for a distant future but now this problem is standing firmly in front of us. We certainly cannot deny the fact that nature has started walking on some different path. The seasons are no more like they used to be earlier; heavy rainfall occurring anytime, earthquakes jolting the lives of the people, extreme heat, droughts and floods are causing havoc. Recently, our city Karachi has emerged as the city with the most polluted air which is shocking. People are breathing in poison which is going to affect negatively on their health but one cannot stop breathing. What a pathetic situation and all these are effects of climate change. We need to take some collective positive steps in this direction. People need to understand that this is an extreme situation and the world in which they are now living in is no more safe and in order to make it safe they need to change their habits, their greed and their lifestyle. Forests are being shaved-off just to earn money but what about the lives of the people? Factories and industries churning out big amount of carbon dioxide from their chimneys, dissolving poison in the air and forgetting about the health issues. Rivers are being polluted by human and factory waste and on the other hand, people say they worship these rivers. The problem is big but we have got the solutions to it. Opting for solar energy and renewable is the good solution for changing climate. More and more trees need to be planted to wash away the carbon foot-prints from our environment. We must strive to save our only planet Earth which is our home and our shelter. Let’s give a cleaner and greener future to the coming generations. UROOBA SAJID Via Email
