PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has said that the present government is taking serious steps for improvement of the state of human rights in the province by provision of legal coverage.The Minister called upon the International Community to come-forward and support the efforts of the Provincial Government for empowerment of women, children, special persons and senior citizens.He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of toll free “Bolo Help Line 0800-22227” established for supporting women rights at the Directorate of Social Welfare in Peshawar. The occasion was graced by the Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Margaret of ADAMSON, John O’ Brein Country Director Trocaire, Representative of Aiming Change for Tomorrow (ACT), Officers of Social Welfare Department and a large number of representatives from National and International NGOs working for the women right.The Provincial Minister termed the establishment of the said Help Line as a fundamental step for provision of rights to the women, supporting the victims of human rights abuse at every level against criminals. The Minister added that the helpline would help women-folk in integration as the vital part of society.The Provincial Minister while highlighting the efforts made for the betterment of all the down trodden segment of the society stated that legal cover was being provided as per the international requirements, aiming to bring them at par with others.He said that a survey was being conducted to get the detailed database of victims, special children and senior citizens of the whole province aiming to facilitate them. He also directed the concerned quarters to keep the information of victims confidential and provide all possible help to them.The occasion was also addressed by the Australian High Commissioner, Country Director Trocaire, ACT Chief and others who highlighted the importance of the said help line and appreciated the efforts of the Provincial Government. Earlier, Fateha was offered for the victims of the plane crash and the gathering expressed sympathies with bereaved families.
