Chris Rock said “Legality is a matter of power, not justice.” Without giving examples, we know that slavery and colonialism were made the order of the day by unjust societies and their powerful leaders who created institutions that divided the people and enforced dual economy, to create a line between the elite and the poor. Apartheid was not in line with democratic norms. It was expression of fear of losing political power. In a democratic order there is need for a dynamic balance, competitiveness in politics and importance of dissenting opinions. Leaders have to have collective vision of wellness of the people and nation as a whole with clear understanding of gravity of challenges a country faces in arenas of economy and governance Good governance means responsibility, transparency, accountability, effectiveness, efficiency, vision, fairness, honesty, sufficiency economy, and zero tolerance of corruption and incompetence. Rule of law ultimately defines fair play and justice being delivered. The state has to care for the average citizen. The status of an individual has to be based on merit and achievement, not ascription. All this is possible if there is equality of opportunities,Political problems require political solutions. That can only come through effective political leadership and will. Pakistan seeks political solution to Afghan conflict. The U.S needs Pakistan’s help for establishing peace in Afghanistan, says AmbassadorKhalidzad. Political and diplomatic statements give hope but we soon realize that these hopes are not long lasting. In spite of the United NationsSecurity Council’s resolutions the issues of Kashmir and Palistine are still lingering on, dashing to ground all hopes of finding solution to the long outstanding disputes. In the light of the Makkah declaration the OIC countries should boycott the United States. But will they do? The fact is that Muslim countries don’t go beyond payinglip service to people facing oppression. Only time will tell, hand in hand with whom will go the summit partiepants in future. If the Islamic countries really get united the U.S cannot afford to go against them. They are among the biggest buyers of its weapons and other products unfortunately the Islamic countries have not shown unity even against India for the rights of the Kashmiri people. Let us make legality a matter of justice and not power, dirty power that creates drifts taking leaders away from reality and the people, who continue to suffer On the home front improvements in the healthcare services need to be given top priority. Whatever has been done recently in this context is appreciable. But much more needs to be done. There is so much that the limited number of health care staff doctors and nurses can do under the current circumstance. An effective healthcare policy is needed. Good governance is also needed in relation to National Action Plan (NAP) for the health and strength of our institutions and a society free of terrorism, extremism and all sort of crime. NAP should constitute a post -War clause that aims at reconstruction, rehabilitation, capacity building, employment and improvement of local population. This is what could be called a framework for peace and national security. NAP must be implemental with sociological imagination and an eye on the people and institutions. There is need to establish a dynamic balance in the society for peace and prosperity. Values and attitudes mean a lot for societies established and governed by humans. If someone says there is no value of values, it would be utter ignorance and neglectof what is happening in the socio psychological, cultural, political, economic environment and ethics that help maintain order in any human society. An important issue is the credibility gap at multiple levels of interaction. Democratic values must be promoted for ensuring honesty transparency, and objectivity.Without these values and tasteful behaviors there will remain continued imbalance, intolerance, and hateopinion leaders must take effective measures and steps to reduce tensions. National interests are no doubt important as safe guards. But peaceis equally important for creating an enablingenvironment for healthy and happy societies. This means the need for a collective wisdom to resolve issues at national, international, regional and local levels of administration and policy. More importantly it implies that sacrifices are required to be offered looking beyond selfish interests and narrow motives. New narrative is required to think and act creatively and positively to address the issue of poverty and ignorance and the “dwindling plight” of the people that comes to our observation and experience. It suggests. Ponder on what is happening around, sufferings of the sufferers justice undelivered, violation of human rights, the people, swindling plight, states depriving states.Correcting wrongs for moral boost needs courage in leadership to fight in war against extremism and terrorism, make no mistake there is hardly a space for such indulgence and getting stuck with continued blunders. The thinking people expect to count on Prime Minister’s abilityto be the statesman who could cut through the divide to unite the nation. We have to let democracy succeed. Professional competence and knowledge based policies should be the foundation of performance and achievement that we expect we should value, reinventing ratherthan disinvestment and privatization when it comes to public enterprises. Let us make legality a matter of justice and not power, dirty power that creates drifts taking leaders away from reality and the people, who continue to suffer. That needs to be the approach for new Pakistan (Naya Pakistan).
