In Kailua Beach Park, the sand is soft and white, the water is clear, the vibe is calm and the view is exactly what you would expect from a beach in the Hawaiian Islands. And those are the reasons why the beach in Oahu has been selected as the best stretch of sand in an annual list of the top United States beaches. Florida International University professor and coastal scientist Stephen Leatherman has been drafting the top 10 list under the alias ‘Dr Beach’ since 1991. Coming second in the 2019 ranking is Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach on North Carolina’s Outer Banks followed by Grayton Beach State Park in the Florida panhandle. Fourth is Coopers Beach in Southampton, New York and Duke Kahanamoku Beach on Oahu is fifth.
