Special Assistant to PM on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said that the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, was determined to treat the cancer of corruption and economic decline. She expressed the hope that the time was not far away when the economy would grow and people would be prosperous. Responding to claims made by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, she said that an incapable former prime minister and the vision of enlightened Pakistan could not go side by side. She said that a central PML-N leader was in jail and another was on the run. “The rest of their relatives have become absconders in corruption cases,” she said. Referring to the Farishta case, Firdous Ashiq Awan said the culprits involved in the murder would be brought to justice. She said this while talking to the media after she met Farishta’s family. “Reforms will be initiated to improve police and justice system according to demands of the present times and to better tackle such incidents in future,” she said. She said that she had come to assure the family of government’s support. “Prime Minister Imran Khan is striving to bring reforms in the paralyzed system. Farishta was the daughter of the nation and the injustice and cruelty done to her is evidence of the challenges faced by the society,” she said. “The unfortunate incident is a matter of concern. It shows that our traditions have fallen apart, our challenges have increased and our relation with religion has weakened. Our sisters and daughters are falling victim to the deteriorating values in society.” She said the government and the prime minister shared the grief of the family. “We think that in order to stop such incidents, the existing gaps in laws need to be removed.”
