A meeting of District Disaster Management Authority held at conference hall in DC office Jacobabad organized by Community Development Foundation CDF under strengthen communities’ disaster risk management capacities project, here on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Jacobabad Mr. Ghazanfar Ali Qadri and participated by president chamber of commerce, representative of Hindu General Punchait, representative of chamber of Agriculture, representative of MNA Jacobabad and UC chairman Ahmed Pur and Representatives of Emergency Response Teams ERTs from targeted villages. Addressing to DDMA members, the D.C said, “Jacobabad is disaster affected district due to extremely hot weather; there is probability of fire incidents. Due to heavy rains in monsoon, people face livelihood loss, acres of lands and agriculture also get affected, and road accidents occur. Due to tribal clashes, populace is at risk to loss their lives. Therefore, district governments along with social organizations have to focus and work on these disasters.” Chairman chamber of commerce Ahmed Ali Brohi, head of Hindu community Roshan Lal, Muhammad Ali Soomro, Dr. Dildaar bhangar from UC Ahmedpur, MNA representative Anwar Ali Soomro and others said: district government and local NGOs should also implement such type of programs as in case of disasters people could provide their services for disaster victims. UC is affected by water streams from Baluchistan and thul while communities are facing economic losses. To sort out the issue, drainage channel must be linked with canals so that lands could be fertilized and agriculture employment be increased. Furthermore, Deputy Commissioner Ghazanfar Ali Qadri directed government departments to be prepared for monsoon weather. Additionally he said: there is a need of fire brigade, boats, and ambulance within village communities & district management as they could be pro active and provide relief in disaster situation. Continuing the meeting, the D.C required report from the irrigation department over canal issue within UC Ahmedpur and directed other Govt. departments to establish emergency response unit within their concerned department. He also directed to install R.O plant within city and install solar lights in rural areas as to make the district a model village.
