The Punjab government has extended support to ailing singer Heer Singhar. According to media reports, the Punjab government has given Rs 500,000 to the singer to support her in her cancer treatment. Heer Singhar has been battling cancer for a year now. Punjab Information Minister Samsam Bukhari gave the cheque to the singer. Singhar is a renowned folk singer and theatre actress. She has also been honoured with ‘Women of the Year’ award for her performance and singing. However, she was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer last year making her unable to continue to perform for a living. The artist community had demanded the government to extend financial assistance to the singer and her family and bear the expenses of her treatment. Samsam Bukhari had recently met with the artists and assured them of providing financial support to the singer after discussing with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
